iPhone SDK downloads top 100,000

12-Mar-2008
The iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) has been downloaded over 100,000 times since it was unveiled last week. The SDK allows third-party developers to make applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The iPhone SDK has been one of the most talked about pieces of software coming out of Cupertino for some time. Developers and consumers alike wondered how robust the SDK would be when it was finally released.

As it turns out, Apple gave them the same tools that it uses to make applications for the iPhone — a move that excited developers about making applications for the device.

Apple showed off several applications during the launch event including an instant messaging client from AOL. Games from Apple and Electronic Arts were also highlighted during the event, showing developers what could be done with the SDK.

Other companies have already jumped on the iPhone application bandwagon. Six Apart, makers of TypePad blogging software said they have an application in the works and so does Intuit.

Apple said the launch video posted last week has been watched over one million times.
